How Design-Bestseller increased its revenue by +200% in the Netherlands

Design Bestseller was founded as an online shop by Mathes in Aachen, in 2011. A furniture store with a long tradition, Design Bestseller has over 100 years of experience. The company ventured from conducting business solely offline to adding online business as well, with a curated range of designer furniture, lighting, and home accessories. The online shop is available in several European countries.

In June 2024, they joined the Nine United Group and thereby the circle of distributors of designer furniture and accessories including Connox, AmbienteDirect, and Flinders.

The limits of poor pricing tools

The price suggestions from the old provider used by Design-Bestseller were very inaccurate, often requiring manual corrections without any long- term improvements or learning by the tool. The operation was based solely on the EAN/item number, which was not as common four years ago as it is now. The data feed processing took hours, and the price suggestions had to be manually checked for accuracy. Subsequently, the result file had to be transferred to and saved in Design- Bestseller’s master data.

Overall, implementing the new prices took a whole day, including verification. The retailer were therefore urgently looking for a pricing tool that included other parameters in addition to matching and can be manually improved/learned. Additionally, the automatic transmission of price suggestions was very important to them to reduce manual labor.

As Design-Bestseller already used Lengow to sell on high-quality marketplaces such as Galeries Lafayette, BHV Marais, and Maisons du Monde, they naturally turned to Lengow’s advanced pricing solution NetRivals.

Design-Bestseller launched NetRivals with the DE domain in April 2022 and went live with the NL and FR domains in June 2023. They were always happy with the support and found the communication with the NetRivals team to be regular.

Mainly, two people from Design-Bestseller use NetRivals. They leverage dynamic pricing with all its features, as well as the dashboard created for them, on a daily basis. Their product catalog includes home accessories, lighting, furniture, and garden furniture.

  • Through NetRivals, Design-Bestseller gained a much more detailed overview of the price levels at both product and brand levels.

  • Dynamic Pricing, combined with Design-Bestseller’s API, has saved the pricing manager at least one day of work per week, which he could then dedicate to other matters.

  • The new level of detail in managing Dynamic Pricing strategies has elevated the retailer’s pricing capabilities, particularly positioning them better for the key Q4 business period.
